Would it be foolish to say that our lives can be unpredictable? Who can say, “I know exactly what is going to happen tomorrow.”? Even the most mundane, monotonous, routines get shaken up, without us being previously privy to the coming change.

Sure, we as humans, grow through our experiences, and we learn lessons, right? We’ve dealt with the same hypothetical issue as maybe a co-worker. We know they’re going to end up with a certain outcome, whether good or bad, if they keep working at the issue in a certain way.

Maybe they’re making a mistake and we say something like, “I’ve ran into this same problem before, don’t make the same mistake as I did, turn back now or…”, and so on. Inevitably, someone won’t listen to our counsel and they make the same mistake we warned them they would make.

“Hate to say, I Told You So, but…”, but really we love to say, “I told you dumbass! Ha Haa!! Bow down to your superior!” And shit get’s crazy right?

I’m kidding.

Other times we are so sure that this particular activity cannot be done any other way then the way that we know how to do it. How? Because we’ve tried every other way possible and there’s only this one way right. We are 100% that if someone attempts to do, said activity, in another way that they will undoubtedly fail.

They refuse to listen to us, and we snicker a bit to ourselves, “hmmph, alright don’t say I didn’t warrrn youuuu…” the most proud cliche currently in circulation dribbles almost instinctively from our pretentious smirky mouth.

And then what happens… They prove us wrong. Expectations are stomped out like an unwanted financial statements fire. And we get humbled. It’s almost unbelievable when it happens.

I believe Frank Sinatra summed it up best…

Honestly what doesn’t separate us…We create tools that out smart us. So much so that we get a bit antsy, and we make movies like Terminator, and I-Robot to voice our fears about those aforementioned hobby’s.

While the rest of the living and breathing on Earth fight to climb the food chain, we forget there even is a food chain because we’re so far above the next link down that most of our 7 Billion person population will never, ever hunt for even one meal of their lives.

Someone tried to convince, I mean really wouldn’t give it a break, that Dolphins were more intelligent than Human Beings. When I finally had to shut the bullshit down, I did it with this question. Can you show me where the Dolphins nearest hospital is?

Ha! Game Over!

There is no way Flipper, who mind you, still gets caught by fishers nets, is more intelligent than Mankind. I don’t care how many times the Dolphin at SeaWorld fits the square peg through the square hole. In no way does that compare to even the smallest accomplishments of my 6 year old son, who from time to time still pisses himself in his sleep.

What separates us “truly” is not the fact that we get proven wrong. Or the fact that we can see something a far off because we’ve experienced that something before. What makes us different is the, Recollection itself.

If I put my foot in my mouth far enough that I’m embarrassed, you can bet your ass that I’m not making that mistake again, this week. Reconsidering what we’ve previously experienced is why we make progress. And progress is one of the most fundamentally needed aspects of life.


Progression is the one measurable Vital that Humanity can always point to, whether in times of good or bad. Extreme or Docile. In almost every instance humanity can point at growth as a sign of good health.

Often times that something is actually a someone. Possibly, your 1st child, who’s curiously laying in their crib, in the room of their new home for the 1st time right now. Healthy, Happy, and in need of a fresh diaper…

Maybe that something is your well established local business that you built from the foundation up, that for whatever reason has plateaued noticeably of late. Either way, one thing is certain, we measure the state of something by the progressions we see, and hear, and feel.

You may be thinking, “If we’re talking about my business how would I ‘feel’ my company?” Well, If the profits slump lasts much longer, you’ll feel it in your pocketbook.

Having said that, we can all agree on this, Google’s Search Algorithm is progressing and at a furious pace.

Let’s Be Honest…

The last 3 years now we’ve seen an exotic showcase of so many of Google’s pesky pet’s. The Rare Panda’s and Penguins were pecking and clawing at us, and some of us paid no mind. Then for many at least, the aggressive pinpointed attacks from Google’s Hummingbird were a painful signal of Google’s New Maturity.

You may be thinking…

“So What?” And if you don’t own a site, or even planning on owning one in the near future, well, to be frank, if I was in your shoes I’d be asking the same question. But If your in the other pair of shoes. The brand manager who is struggling but desperately needs their income.

The Mom Blogger trying to bring value and profit to her family and her following. The Business Mogul, who decides their Website needs to be up to par with their biggest competitor. Or the Entrepreneur, who is betting the farm, if you will, on their rankings. If you fall somewhere into those categories the non nonchalant, apathetic, “So what…?” from the outsiders looking in is something you almost take offense over.


It is imperative that we keep up with the latest changes, and that we be malleable. Ready to constantly split test and experiment in order to diversify our strategies online. And since the New Year is quickly approaching it be a best practice to reevaluate what SEO Tactics worked Best for our sites in 2017.

Then we’ll follow that up with what future trends we see on 2018’s horizon. And what our SEO landscape looks like so far. thought I’d use this time to Finding the SEO Definition in 2017 is so important for business’ hoping to succeed online . For Many Backlinks are still the main source of ranking, and keywords are still king.

Today, I’ll show how social media is becoming ever more prevalent. How on-page is still integrated in Google’s core algorithm, if you will. Why keyword saturation is real. And how to fix it with the “Optimized Phasing Toolbox” or OPT.

First off, let’s get down to the basics.

What is SEO?

SEO is an abbreviation of the phrase, “Search Engine Optimisation”.

One could define SEO, as the process of ranking webpages on search engine results pages. (SERP)s The most common search engine to rank for is obviously the powerhouse, Google Search. The new Alphabet conglomerate now owns Google, who is the leading search engine in the world. Receiving over 3.5 billion searches daily! But enough of Google, all we are care about is where we are on their SERP’s for now.

There are various ways you can rank on SERPs. While we discuss those throughout this article keep an open. A lot of what I will be covering is the opposite of what so many have said for so long. Yet more and more are starting to hint at what I’ve been practicing the whole time. That’s why I finally official opened shop. Because, what I do should be the only way, the only truth, the only life of an Search Engine Optimisation campaign.

The most important thing to know about SEO

SEO is not the grand illusion many have been preaching that it is. What do I mean by that? What I mean, is that SEO is not the end all. Ranking doesn’t mean that you will succeed in online business.

In fact you can have all the #1 rankings in the world but if not coupled with other key components, like traffic, then… well…it’s hard to make money off of no one.

SEO in reality is lacking.

In the sense that if you rely upon it for your main draw of traffic you may end up very disappointed. you need attempt and aim to achieve a first page ranking, because there is no point ranking for the second page as 91% of people never make it past the first page when they are searching for something on the web. Google appreciates authority, trust and relevance to particular searches, and you must fulfil these in order to even be considered on Google’s first page rankings.

Black Hat and White Hat (and Grey Hat)

There are different ways and styles when it comes to performing SEO on a webpage or URL, and these styles are accepted differently by Google and the community alike. When we refer to white or black hat, we are essentially distinguishing between the good techniques that Google likes and accepts, and the bad techniques which Google frowns upon and will penalise you for.

White hat is the good side of the coin and is the most acceptable form of SEO that Google accepts.

White hat involves a lot of on-page SEO and involves creating inter-linking content on your site, making sure the quality is amazing and making sure things like your H1 and H2 headings have relevant keywords in place and explain exactly what your site is about. White hat also involves collecting backlinks but in a more professional manner, normally through drip feeding your URL in forums and comment sections over a period of time.

Black Hat is the bad side of the coin and is the least accepted method of SEO. Black hat SEO involves a lot of keyword spam and ‘stuffing’ on your website which Google will pick up on in a heartbeat, and involves a lot of link spam on blog comment sections, forums, social media.

Black hat is essentially a way to rank superfast for a short time, as Google with catch up with you in no time, especially in 2017. The quality of black hat SEO is normally bad and the content on the website will most likely be spun or duplicate content stolen from another webpage.

An interesting note to mention, is that there is also a space in the middle known as grey hat, which involves a little bit of both. Grey hat is essentially the process of using link farms and content writers to boost your website, and making sure you have a combination of quality and authority.

Link farms have loads and loads of PBNs (private blog networks) and will add an article with links back to your site. Content writers will write the content for you and will weave in loads of keywords that will go unnoticed by Goggle’s penalty systems.

Grey hat is the middle ground and is the best way to rank fast with little effort and more security. However, as time goes on and Google gets smarter, grey hat may soon become black hat, so keep your eyes open.

How to Rank in 2018 – The Go-To Methods

There are loads of ways to rank on SERPs and many of the old techniques are still used today and are still just as effective when it comes to those juicy first page rankings. Google’s algorithm is always changing, but not in a way that means techniques used in the past won’t work today or in the future. They tend to evolve in a way to make the ‘dirtier’ techniques incredibly hard to pull off and the ‘cleaner’ techniques just a little harder but not impossible to pull off. When I talk about ‘dirty’ and ‘clean’ techniques, I’m of course referring to the black hat techniques and white hat techniques (as mentioned above).

Keywords are Still King

Keywords are the main players in the SEO game, and will make sure your content is relevant, in Google’s eyes at least. Keywords are basically the words that people, like you and me, are typing into Google’s search engine in order to find results. Keywords can be both long-tail and short-tail, with long-tail words being log and lengthy searches and short-tail being broader more common searches.

The current and best way to rank in 2018 and the method that has always been faithful over the years is to use long-tail keywords when ranking your webpage. The issue with short-tail keywords is that, although they have tons of monthly searches and tons of traffic, they are being targeting by everyone. Every big boy SEO marketer is going for these common, high traffic keywords because they will result in the most ROI, but they are hard to rank for, even for the veterans in the SEO community.

Long-tail keywords are untargeted and have less traffic, which means you need to learn to combine a loads of long-tail, low traffic/competition keywords into one unique, quality piece of content.

Quality is Everything

Google loves quality content almost as much as relevant content, and a quality article/piece of content will get Google’s attention in no time. When I talk about ‘quality’, I am referring to the length, links, content (pictures, videos) and bounce rate.

To put it bluntly, you are not going to rank very highly and quickly with a 500-word article, you are going to want to write at least a 1000 words on a topic you’re trying to rank for. The benefit of lengthy content is it will give you more room for your keywords, and will keep people reading for longer.

On-page links and on-site interlinking represents quality in Google’s eyes and means you are keeping the site relevant and consistent to your topic area. Site interlinking involves you linking your pages together through embedded hyperlinks inside particular, relevant words in your article. This is known as a form of on-page SEO and is very effective.

Furthermore, adding pictures and videos to your articles makes it more interesting and readable compared to your standard black and white word document. Don’t forget to add alt text to your photos to help them rank on Google’s image search engines and to make them relevant to your site!

Not only will improving the quality tell Google you’re a trustworthy site but will also stop people from leaving. Bounce rate is something Google can recognise and if they see people entering and then immediately leaving your site, they won’t rank it.

Backlinking is Still Important

The trusty backlink has always been a favoured method in order to rank on Google and has been around since the birth of the search engine itself. Backlinking is essentially the process of getting other sites to link back to your site, and, more specifically, getting big, high authority and trustworthy sites to link back. This technique is known as off-page SEO.

When backlinking to your site, you are going to want to search for sites with high domain authority (DA) and trust flow (TF). Sites that are high in these metrics will be seen by Google as great, high ranking sites and the fact they are linking back to yours tells Google that your site must be relevant and good enough to be on their site also.

When an authority site links to yours, it transfers some of its authority to you, therefore, the more sites you have linking to yours, the more authority and trust you will develop. However, getting links from authority sites is difficult and time consuming, so there are a number of solutions.

You can link spam on authority blogs and forums which will rank you quickly but for a short time; you could drip feed your links into the authority blogs and forums slowly, ranking slower but long-term; you could build a PBN network which is effective but lengthy, or you could buy your links from a link farm. I wouldn’t recommend link spamming, but the latter three are fine to use.

On a side note about PBNs,

They are very effective when they are built correctly but obtaining the domains can be difficult and expensive. PBNs basically use and abuse the domain names that already have a high DA and TF but are no longer active. There are a number of ways you can find these URLs but the best way is to probably just buy one from a freelancing site. You can then write the content on yourself and create relevant anchor text that links back to your site.

More Recent Developments – Newer Methods to Lookout For
As we progress into 2018 and beyond

Google has been investing in a number of technologies that will affect SEO and how you rank on SERPs. These developments do not (entirely) affect the current/original methods of ranking, but do offer new ways to improve your chances of achieving a first page rank.

Site Speed and Performance

This has been a persistent trend we have seen and Google seems to be investing more and more into site metrics and how fast a site loads and performs. What we have been seeing is that newer, high performing sites are achieving better ranks than those that are old and slow. This is probably the result of the progressively rapid movement to mobile, and it’s been noted that if your site takes longer than 3 seconds to load you are delivering a bad experience to your viewers, and may be hit in terms of rankings.

The Mobile Movement

As technologies develop and we slowly moving from searching on our computers to searching on our phones, webpages need to be optimised to cope with the structural change. Google has put a lot of investment into their systems and it is now 100% confirmed that websites that are not compatible across multiple devices will be left behind and not ranked. Your content and website will need to be lightning fast and consumable on the move.

As well as interesting, as mobile signals to your site will now govern how you rank on SERPs. It is for mobile that Google now expects sites to be fast and high in performance, relating to the above point.

Security on Webpages

Security on webpages has always been a factor in SEO and more of a requirement than a trend. However, having a secure website in 2018 will give users confidence in your page and will benefit you in SERPs. Google Chrome has recently announced that their system will alert users when the website they are on is not adhering to HTTP security, which will definitely affect you bounce rate and, therefore, your rankings if you don’t have webpage security.

Deep Machine Learning

In 2015, Google released the RankBrain, a system that is designed to understand the complex context of natural language. This system is still young and is being constantly developed, but in 2018 we may see it a lot more. The development of this machine means that keywords will become less relevant and that content should clearly and directly answer questions that people are searching for. But don’t worry! Keywords are still very important and will provide great insight into the content you are providing and trying to rank for. The key here is to make sure content is quality and relevant to ensure it passes this machine’s clever tests.


The SEO definition in 2018 is similar and not too different to what we would usually do in order to rank and stay ranked on SERPs. Keywords (for the moment) are still important and ensure that your content is relevant and answering the questions users have on the internet, quality in your content is still important and on-page SEO is a must, and backlinking is still the bread and butter of SEO and you should make sure you have good DA and TF metrics.

Things to take note of in 2018 are speed, mobile optimisation and security, as Google is making progressive investments into technologies associated with these factors. The involvement of RankBrain is also something to watch out for. Make sure content is flawless and flows, whilst answering user questions.
